Frequently Asked Questions
How is total inventory value calculated?
Multiply the quantity of each item by its unit cost, then add all lines together. 10 keyboards at 400 rupees plus 5 mice at 200 rupees gives 4,000 plus 1,000, a total of 5,000 rupees.
Should inventory be valued at cost or selling price?
For accounting, stock is usually valued at cost price or net realisable value, whichever is lower. This gives a conservative, accurate picture of the money tied up in unsold goods.
Why is regular inventory valuation important for a shop?
It shows how much capital is locked in stock, highlights slow-moving items, and supports accurate profit and GST reporting, helping you order smartly and avoid dead stock.
